Digital transformation consulting that starts with the decision, not the software

Wills Business provides digital transformation consulting to mid-sized companies and family groups in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. We do not sell or implement software, and we are not tied to any vendor. That is the point. Owners come to us when they have been sold three systems that do not talk to each other, when an ERP project has stalled, or when someone on the board has asked what the company is doing about AI. We help you decide what to change, in what order, which system and vendor to choose, and how to keep the implementation on your terms.

Thirty minutes. No deck. A senior consultant replies.

Who calls us about digital transformation

Owners who cannot see into their own company. Sales, stock and cash live in three systems and a dozen spreadsheets. The monthly numbers arrive late and do not agree. You want one view of the business and do not know which system would give it to you.

Executives with an ERP decision or a stalled ERP project. Vendors in Cairo, Riyadh and Dubai have each presented. Every demo looks good. You need someone on your side of the table who has seen these projects fail and knows why.

Boards and family councils asking about AI. A director, a successor or an investor wants a position on AI. You want a plain answer on where it would pay back in your business, where it would not, and what has to be in place first.

What you get

Deliverables depend on the scope. A digital transformation engagement typically includes:

  1. A current-state assessment: which processes run on which systems, where data is re-entered by hand, where reports are built in spreadsheets, and what it costs in time and errors each month.
  2. A digital strategy of a few pages, not a hundred: the three to five changes that matter, the business result each one is expected to produce, the order to do them in, and the budget range to plan for.
  3. Requirements written from your processes, not from a vendor's feature list, ranked by what the business needs against what would be nice.
  4. System and vendor selection: a shortlist, structured scoring of demonstrations against your requirements, reference checks, a review of the commercial and support terms, and a written recommendation. This applies to ERP, CRM, warehouse, HR and finance systems.
  5. An AI adoption review where relevant: the specific tasks in your company where current AI tools would save time or money, the data and controls each one needs, and the ones to leave alone for now.
  6. Implementation oversight on your side: a governance structure for the project, a phased plan, milestone reviews, and an independent check before each go-live decision. The vendor implements. We make sure they implement what you bought.
  7. A change and adoption plan covering who has to work differently, how they are trained, and how usage is measured after go-live.

Deliverables are produced in English, Arabic or both.

How the work runs

  1. Scoping (week 1). We agree the question, the systems and functions in scope, who on your side is involved, and the fee. You receive a written scope.
  2. Assessment (weeks 2 to 4). Process walks, interviews with the people doing the re-keying, a review of your current systems and contracts, and a data quality check.
  3. Strategy and requirements (weeks 4 to 7). The digital strategy and the requirements document, reviewed with your leadership team. You decide what is in and out before any vendor is contacted.
  4. Selection (weeks 7 to 12). Shortlist, scripted demonstrations on your data, scoring, reference calls, commercial review and recommendation.
  5. Oversight (during implementation). Scoped separately once the vendor and timeline are known. Usually a fixed monthly scope through go-live.

What goes wrong without it

  • The demo decides. The system is chosen on the strength of a presentation and a discount that expires Friday. Requirements are written afterwards, by the vendor.
  • The broken process is automated. Nobody fixed the approval chain or the item master before implementation. The new system runs the old confusion, faster.
  • Nobody owns the project on the client side. The vendor runs the project, the finance manager attends when free, and go-live slips by a year. Half the modules paid for are never switched on.
  • AI as a slogan. A pilot is launched because the board asked, on a task nobody measured, with data nobody cleaned. It is quietly dropped.
  • The founder is the only report. The company still runs on what the owner remembers, because the system was set up to record transactions, not to answer questions.

What is out of scope

We do not sell, resell, build or implement software, and we do not accept referral fees from vendors. We do not run your IT, host your systems or provide developers. If you already know which system you want and need an implementer, we will say so on the scoping call and you will not need us.

Frequently asked questions

What is digital transformation for a company of 50 to 500 people? Not a new business model and not a chatbot. For a company this size it means replacing spreadsheets and disconnected systems with a small number of connected ones, so that sales, stock, cash and payroll are recorded once and reported the same way to everyone. It usually starts with finance, sales and operations, and it changes how people work more than it changes the technology. The measure of success is that the owner can answer any question about the business from the system, on the same day.

What do your digital transformation consulting services include? Assessment, digital strategy, requirements, system and vendor selection, AI adoption review, implementation oversight on the client side, and change planning. We do not implement the software.

Do you do ERP consulting? Yes, as selection and oversight. We help you define what the ERP must do, choose between vendors and implementers on evidence, negotiate the scope and terms, and check each phase before you sign off. We do not configure or install the system.

What does AI strategy consulting look like for a mid-sized company? A review of your actual tasks, not a technology tour. We identify where current tools would save measurable time or money, in customer service, document handling, forecasting and reporting, and what data, controls and skills each one needs. The output is a short list of things worth doing this year, and a longer list of things not worth doing yet.

Which ERP vendors do you recommend for Egypt or Saudi Arabia? None in advance. The right system depends on your industry, size, processes, local tax and e-invoicing requirements, and the quality of the implementer in your city. We are vendor-neutral and take no fees from vendors, so the recommendation is built from your requirements.

How much does digital transformation consulting cost? Fixed fee per scope, quoted in writing after the scoping call. The strategy and selection phases are one scope; oversight during implementation is a second, priced once the vendor and timeline are known.
